OK, so my April 15th deadline has come and gone, and right, you are correct, I have not posted my new music video for April—yet! VERY soon though. Here's whassup: It is/will be called "THE TIME IS NOW (And It's Always NOW!)," and it has turned into more work that I had imagined (even more "more work" than normal!). Most things are done though--the song, in fact, has been done for a couple weeks. It's a song that I played with a couple years ago, then revised this month, shortened it and did some remixing.
And then the video shooting went well last week. We shot it fully quarantined, just the two of us--well, 3 counting our big guy, Flynn Cat Sawyer. Leny will be joining me in this video (actually she appears in all of my music videos, but this time more). And bless her heart, she sang her parts like an angel and looks great in the video--but she really doesn't even LIKE this "The Time Is Now" song! She's amazing, as I always say. So last week we shot each other in 4K on greenscreen here in our Chicago home office.
We have a two-flat, by the way, and we live on the first floor. Our offices and studio are on the second floor. And when I say "studio," I mean it's the area of the second floor that was known by the previous owners, ever since our house was built in 1912, as "the dining room for the upstairs people"! Now, the main wall is totally painted Chromakey green, and then for full-body we extend a green cloth across the floor. We've got some great soft box lights, cameras, and bang there we are on green--ready for processing....
Well, that's where the tricky part has come, as I decided to go very graphical with this video. Just for fun, and of course to keep me sharp for work, during this quarantine down time. So it's heavy Adobe After Effects (which we do a lot of for work), with digital camera moves, and a multi-layered background. The After Effects RENDERING times have generally been around 30 HOURS (THIRTY!) for my various versions along the way. And I keep making changes, 'cause that's me! So that means even MORE computer rendering! Not to mention render times in Premiere, where it's all getting assembled. I will still post the April video in April though!
Hey and more good news: For next month I am planning to actually release my music video a couple days EARLY, so it will be up before, and in time for, Mother's Day. As the May song is actually a very mother-related song and soon-to-be-music video...well, more on the May video soon! For now then, here are a few stills from this April's upcoming original music video, "THE TIME IS NOW (And It's Always NOW!)":
